One-word team-building game
Create together, one uneditable word at a time.
One-Word Machine is a live shared-output game. Yakery chooses a task, then players take turns adding exactly one word or symbol. Every contribution is permanent and visible, so the room must cooperate without any one person controlling the result.

The first player contributes exactly one word or symbol.
- 3
The shared creation stays visible while the turn moves to the next player.
- 4
Everyone contributes twice, with no editing or deleting earlier choices.
- 5
Read the final shared masterpiece and discuss the tiny decisions that changed its direction.
Example round
A mission statement assembled six characters at a time
Asked to write a supervillain apology, the room might create: “Regretfully, our laser only improved downtown parking forever.” Nobody planned the sentence, but everybody owns one piece.
Best for
Use it when the room needs…
- Small-team warmups
- Mission-statement workshops
- Communication practice
- Groups with only eight minutes
Facilitator tips
Keep the chain moving.
- Remind players that punctuation counts as a useful contribution.
- Do not let the group plan the whole sentence outside the game.
- Run a second task immediately and compare how quickly the room finds a shared direction.
Participation and accessibility
Contributions are very short and the shared text remains visible. The timed turn order may be adjusted by the host for participants who need more reading or input time.
