How to play
Mad Libs Relay in five steps.
- 1
Start a room, choose Mad Libs Relay, and let every player begin a chain with a specific profession.
- 2
The next player names an object that person would never normally carry.
- 3
A new player explains why the profession had the object and makes the reason sound almost reasonable.
- 4
The chain rotates again for the disaster caused by that object.
- 5
One final player writes the punchy headline before the room reveals every completed article.
Example round
One profession, one object, one avoidable disaster
A marine biologist carries a ceremonial waffle iron to negotiate with dolphins. The iron triggers a harbor-wide breakfast shortage, leading to the headline: “SCIENTIST FLIPS OUT AS DOLPHINS DEMAND SYRUP.”
Best for
Use it when the room needs…
- Short meeting warmups
- Creative writing groups
- Classroom vocabulary practice
- Low-prep game nights
Facilitator tips
Keep the chain moving.
- Encourage precise professions such as forensic botanist instead of scientist.
- Keep answers short enough that the final headline can echo earlier details.
- Use auto-proceed for a fast nine-minute round with no host nudging.
Participation and accessibility
The game is text based and uses short prompts. Reading the final headlines aloud is optional, so participants can play without relying on audio or performance.
